The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Leye Oyebade, has called on officers of the command who are not ready to imbibe the culture of professional best practices to resign.
Oyebade made the call in his first address to officers of the command after taking over from his predecessor, Mohammed Katsina, on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Oyebade also said the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, was to give the force a friendly image.
He said, “I have been briefed about the teamwork existing among officers and men of the command; so I salute your resolve to reduce crime.
“Let me reiterate the commitment of the police high command to change the perception of the police as a corrupt institution. It will be dangerous for a policeman that is not ready to imbibe the culture of professional best practices and diligence to remain in the force.
“My advice to such officers is to kindly tender their resignation letter before they are flushed out.”
Oyebade assured the residents that the police would do their job with the fear of God.
Earlier, Katsina advised his successor to be ready to step on toes in his fight against crime.
